About

A chest so tight, only deep pressure can loosen it — something heavy, or a hug. Muscles too tense to move, in need of massage. Hands and feet so numb, they need to be touched to let me know they are still here. Head heavy — how to hold it on my own? How to cover my freezing body with a blanket or drag myself to get a glass of water? But my mouth, inexistent, unable to ask for help.

How do we share our own bodily experiences and physical needs with others who don’t live in our skin?

Whole Body Listening is a tactile installation in the form of a quilted weighted blanket, designed to be held, touched, and felt in order to be fully experienced. Materials such as glass beads, cotton, and memory foam create zones of varying texture, weight, and pressure, translating sensory-divergent perception and embodied needs experienced during autistic shutdown episodes.
