What does listening look like?
I am listening, so are you is a participatory multimedia installation that began with a classroom song teaching children how attention should look:
»Eyes are watching. Ears are listening. Mouth is quiet. Body is too…«
Combining this recording with images of my own attempts to “look attentive,” the work follows a body negotiating increasingly impossible expectations. As the poses become more unhinged, the work begins to ask a different question:
What happens when we mistake the performance of listening for listening itself?
